أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
When to Read
This beautiful dua is particularly potent when recited as part of your evening remembrance (Adhkar). As the sun begins to set and the night emerges, bringing with it various creatures that might disturb our peace or cause harm, this supplication serves as a shield. Reciting it three times in the morning and three times in the evening, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us, provides comprehensive protection throughout the day and night.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's power. Utter the words clearly, focusing on the meaning of seeking refuge in Allah's complete and flawless words. It is recommended to repeat it three times in the evening before you sleep, and also three times in the morning. Feel the intention of protection enveloping you as you speak.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ strongly recommended this dua for protection. When a man came to him complaining of being stung by a scorpion during the night, the Prophet ﷺ asked him why he hadn't sought refuge with Allah's words. The man's response indicated he hadn't been taught them. The Prophet ﷺ then taught him this very dua, stating that if he had recited it that night, it would not have harmed him. This highlights its effectiveness against venomous creatures and, by extension, other harmful insects and pests that emerge at night. It's a powerful reminder that Allah's words are a potent source of safety from all creation's evils.
