In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing can harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
Bismillahi alladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwa as-samee'u al-'aleem.
When to Read
This powerful dua is recommended to be recited in the evening, as dusk settles and the night begins. It's part of the evening supplications (Adhkar al- المساء), helping us to seek Allah's protection as we transition from day to night. Reciting it consistently helps us remain in Allah's care throughout the night.
How to Read
Recite this dua three times in the evening. The act of saying it with sincerity and full belief in Allah's power is key. It's also a beautiful practice to say it after the Asr prayer, preparing yourself for the coming night. Focus on the meaning of the words, acknowledging that only with Allah's permission can anything occur.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ informed us of the immense benefit of this dua. He said: 'Whoever says it three times in the morning will be protected from affliction until the evening, and whoever says it three times in the evening will be protected from affliction until the morning.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5087, graded Sahih by Al-Albani). This means that by reciting these words with conviction, you are actively seeking Allah's shield against all forms of harm, both physical and spiritual, for the duration of the night.
