O Allah, do not let me feel secure from Your plan, do not let me forget Your remembrance, and do not make me among the heedless. And awaken me for the Fajr prayer at such-and-such time, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
Allahumma la tu'minni makrak, wa la tunsini dhikrak, wa la taj'alni minal ghafilin, wa ayqidhni li salatil fajr, sa'ata kadha wa kadha, bi rahmatika ya Arhamar Rahiminn.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is best recited in the evening, before you go to sleep. It’s a beautiful way to conclude your day, asking Allah for His assistance in fulfilling one of the most beloved acts to Him: the Fajr prayer.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart. Understand that waking for Fajr is a blessing from Allah. You can mention the specific time you wish to wake up in the blank (سَاعَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا - at such-and-such time) if you like, but the core request is for Allah's help in being among those who pray Fajr. Raise your hands if you are able, and face the Qiblah if possible, though this is not a strict condition.
Virtues & Benefits
The Fajr prayer is a significant act of worship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever prays the two cooler prayers (Fajr and Asr) will enter Paradise.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 574; Muslim 635). By making this dua, you are actively seeking Allah's help to achieve this great reward. It also serves as a reminder to avoid heedlessness and to remain conscious of Allah's presence and planning in our lives.
Source & Authentication
The narration describes how the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would say this upon going to sleep: 'Allahumma la tu'minni makrak, wa la tunsini dhikrak, wa la taj'alni minal ghafilin, wa ayqidhni li salatil fajr, sa'ata kadha wa kadha, bi rahmatika ya Arhamar Rahiminn.' (O Allah, do not let me feel secure from Your plan, do not let me forget Your remembrance, and do not make me among the heedless. And awaken me for the Fajr prayer at such-and-such time, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.) The specific mention of the time ('at such-and-such time') suggests flexibility and reliance on Allah's knowledge.
