Dua for a Heart Illuminated with Knowledge

Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3844

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This beautiful supplication is recommended to be recited in the morning, but its essence of seeking beneficial knowledge, pure sustenance, and accepted deeds is relevant at any time. For those seeking to illuminate their hearts with knowledge, reciting this as part of their evening remembrance (adhkar) is a powerful way to conclude the day, asking Allah to make the knowledge gained truly beneficial and to accept their efforts.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a hopeful heart. Picture Allah (SWT) listening to your plea. Focus on the meaning of each word: 'beneficial knowledge' that guides you, 'goodly provision' that sustains you lawfully, and 'acceptable deeds' that draw you closer to Him. It is best to raise your hands slightly while making dua, though it is not a strict requirement for this specific supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates three of the most important requests a believer can make. Beneficial knowledge opens the mind and heart to understanding Allah's signs and commands. Goodly provision ensures that one's needs are met in ways that are pleasing to Allah, preventing hardship and need. Acceptable deeds are those performed with sincerity and according to the Sunnah, which are actually raised to Allah's acceptance. By asking for these three in the evening, we are essentially asking Allah to bless our past efforts and prepare us for a day ahead filled with purpose and guidance.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed the morning prayer, he would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.)
