اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.
Allahumma aftah li abwaba rahmatik
When to Read
This dua is recited upon entering the masjid, after reciting the dua for entering the house and before offering Tahiyyat al-Masjid (the two rak'ahs of greeting the masjid). It's a beautiful way to set the intention for worship and seek Allah's blessings as you step into His house.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and mindfulness as you take your first steps into the masjid. Ideally, this is done after reciting the dua for entering a house, which is: *Bismillah, wa'l-hamdulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma ajirni minash-shaitanir-rajeem.* (In the name of Allah, and praise be to Allah. O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Satan.) Then, recite the dua for entering the masjid. It's recommended to enter with the right foot.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua connects us to the immense mercy of Allah as we enter a place dedicated to His worship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this supplication to remind us that the masjid is a sanctuary of Allah's grace. It helps shift our focus from the worldly affairs we left behind to the spiritual purpose of our visit, preparing our hearts and minds for prayer and reflection.

Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When any one of you enters the mosque, he should say: Allahumma aftah li abwaba rahmatik.' (O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.) And when he leaves, he should say: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. (O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty.)
