When to Read
This dua is recited specifically when entering a Masjid, a place of worship and immense blessings. As you step across the threshold, whether for prayer, seeking knowledge, or any other legitimate purpose, this supplication is a beautiful way to commence your time within the sacred space. It’s particularly poignant when your intention is to engage in the pursuit of Islamic knowledge, as the Masjid is a primary hub for learning and spiritual growth.
How to Read
Recite this dua just as you are about to enter the Masjid, or immediately upon stepping inside. It is a Sunnah practice to enter with the right foot and recite this supplication. The intention should be sincere, seeking Allah's blessings and favor in entering His house.
Virtues & Benefits
This simple yet profound dua carries immense weight. By asking Allah to open the 'doors of His mercy,' you are seeking divine favor, acceptance, and guidance. When entering the Masjid with the intention of seeking knowledge, this dua is especially potent. It signals to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) your earnest desire to learn and grow, and He, in His infinite mercy, responds by making the path of knowledge easier and more fruitful for you. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that whoever goes to the Masjid solely to learn good or to teach it, will have a reward like that of a pilgrim performing Hajj. (At-Tirmidhi 265, Sahih). Therefore, invoking Allah's mercy upon entering the Masjid for such a noble purpose amplifies the potential for spiritual and intellectual benefit.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When one of you enters the mosque, he should say: O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.' (Sahih Muslim 713). Separate reports mention saying this upon entering and upon exiting.
