اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
O Allah, open to me the doors of Your mercy.
Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited upon entering the Masjid. Imagine yourself standing at the threshold of Allah's House. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this specific supplication to invoke Allah's mercy as we step into a place of worship and reflection. If you are facing a particular fear, whether it's social anxiety within the crowd, a fear of failing in your spiritual journey, or any other apprehension, reciting this with a sincere heart as you enter the masjid can be a powerful way to seek Allah's assistance in overcoming it. Think of it as asking the Most Merciful to grant you comfort, strength, and peace within His sacred space.
How to Read
As you approach the entrance of the Masjid, ideally you would have already made the dua for exiting the home (if applicable) and the dua for walking to the prayer. Upon reaching the door, pause for a moment. Recite the dua with a clear voice or in your heart, focusing on the meaning: asking Allah to open the doors of His vast mercy for you. It is recommended to enter with the right foot, just as we generally enter blessed places. Let your intention be to seek refuge and strength in Allah to face whatever concerns you might have.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting this dua connects us directly to Allah's boundless mercy. By asking for the 'doors of Your mercy' to be opened, we are essentially requesting divine aid, spiritual upliftment, and peace. This is especially pertinent when facing fears. Allah's mercy encompasses all things, and seeking it within His house of worship is a profound act of reliance. It signifies that our strength comes from Him, and He is capable of alleviating any fear or hardship we may experience, making our spiritual sojourn more serene and fruitful.

When the Prophet (ﷺ) entered the mosque, he would say: ‘*A'udhu billah-il-'Adheem wa bi Wajhi-hil-Kareem wa bi Sultan-ih-il-Qadeem min-ash-Shaitan-ir-rajeem* (I seek refuge in Allah the Almighty, and in His Noble Face, and in His ancient authority from the accursed Satan).' He said: 'If he says this, then Satan says: 'He is protected from me for the rest of the day.' And when the Prophet (ﷺ) entered the mosque, he would say: ‘*Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik*’ (O Allah, open to me the doors of Your mercy). And when he left, he would say: ‘*Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik*’ (O Allah, I ask of You Your bounty).
