Entering Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.

Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik

When to Read

This dua is recited upon entering any masjid. While the primary recitation is for seeking Allah's mercy for oneself, it can also be an opportune moment to remember deceased loved ones. As you enter the House of Allah, you are in a sacred space where supplications are readily accepted. It's a fitting time to make dua for forgiveness and a high station in Jannah for those who have passed.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart as you step into the masjid with your right foot. Visualize the vastness of Allah's mercy enveloping you and, by extension, those you wish to supplicate for. Focus on the intention of seeking Allah's favor and reward for the deceased.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is specifically for seeking Allah's mercy upon entering the masjid. The masjid is a place of immense blessings, and supplications made within it, especially upon entry, are considered highly potent. By remembering the deceased in this blessed state, we hope that Allah's mercy extends to them, forgiving their sins and elevating their ranks in the hereafter. It is a beautiful way to combine the reward of entering the masjid with making dua for our departed.

Source & Authentication

When the Prophet (ﷺ) entered the mosque, he would say: 'Allahumma aftah li abwaba rahmatik.' (O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.) And when he went out, he would say: 'Allahumma-inni as'aluka min fadlik.' (O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty.) — Sahih Muslim 713
