اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.
Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik
When to Read
This beautiful dua is recited upon entering the Masjid. While its primary context is seeking Allah's general mercy upon entering His house, we can intentionally connect it to our personal supplications. When you are seeking Allah's guidance and blessing for a marriage proposal, reciting this upon entering the mosque can be a powerful way to begin your heartfelt prayer. Imagine standing before Allah, asking Him to open the doors of His mercy not just for your visit to the mosque, but specifically for the significant step of a marriage proposal you are contemplating or about to undertake.
How to Read
This dua is typically recited upon entering the Masjid, after stepping in with the right foot. Face the Qiblah (direction of prayer) and say it with sincerity and a hopeful heart. When using it for a marriage proposal, make this intention clear in your heart as you recite it. Visualize those 'doors of mercy' opening to bring goodness, ease, and divine approval to the proposal. You can then proceed to offer two rak'ahs of salah (Sunnah) and make your specific dua for the proposal.
Virtues & Benefits
The primary benefit of this dua is seeking Allah's mercy, which is the key to all good in this life and the next. By asking Allah to open the doors of His mercy upon entering His house, we acknowledge our dependence on Him and invite His blessings. When we couple this with a specific intention, like seeking success in a marriage proposal, we are essentially asking Allah to bestow His mercy upon that endeavor. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua as a way to begin our time in the mosque with a focus on divine grace and acceptance. This can be particularly potent when seeking divine intervention in major life decisions.

Narrated Abu Usayd Malik bin Rabi'ah As-Sa'idi: I heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ say when he entered the mosque: 'Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik' (O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy). And when he went out, he invoked Allah other than this. He would say: 'Allahumma-f-tah li abwaba fadlik' (O Allah, open for me the doors of Your grace).
