Dua for Entering the Masjid: Invoking Allah for Guidance and Mercy

Entering Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 714

اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.

Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik

When to Read

This dua is recited upon entering the Masjid, specifically as you step across the threshold with your right foot. It's a beautiful way to begin your time in the House of Allah, seeking His immense mercy as you enter a place of worship and reflection.

How to Read

Recite this supplication sincerely as you are about to enter the mosque. It is recommended to enter with your right foot first, similar to the practice upon entering one's home, and to offer this dua as you do so. The intention behind it is to seek Allah's grace and blessings upon entering His place of worship.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is profoundly significant because the Masjid is a place where Allah's mercy is particularly abundant. By asking Allah to open the doors of His mercy, you are invoking His special attention and blessings for your worship, your supplications, and your spiritual state while you are within the mosque. It sets a tone of humility and dependence on Allah, acknowledging that all good deeds and their acceptance come solely from His divine favor. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us a similar dua for entering our homes, asking for good and seeking refuge from evil, highlighting the importance of invoking Allah's name and seeking His blessings at the threshold of places of significance.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When any one of you enters the mosque, he should say: Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik (O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy). And when he leaves the mosque, he should say: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik (O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty).' (Sahih Muslim 714)
