Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

O Allah, open to me the doors of Your mercy.

Allahumma aftah li abwaba rahmatik

When to Read

This dua is recited upon entering the masjid (mosque). It's a beautiful way to begin your worship, asking Allah to envelop you in His vast mercy as you step into His house.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and mindfulness as you take your first steps into the masjid. It's customary to enter with the right foot first, similar to entering one's home, and to do so with a sense of reverence and anticipation for connecting with Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication seeks Allah's mercy, which is the key to all acceptance of deeds. By asking for the 'doors of mercy' to be opened, we are essentially asking for our prayers, our presence, and our overall worship within the masjid to be accepted. It sets a tone of humility and reliance on Allah's grace, which is crucial for any act of devotion.

Source & Authentication

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you enters the mosque, let him say: Allahumma aftah li abwaba rahmatik. And when he leaves, let him say: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.' (O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.)
