اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ
O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.
Allahumma-ftah li abwaba rahmatik
When to Read
This dua is recommended to be recited upon entering the masjid. While there isn't a specific dua for *finding* a good spot, the general dua for entering the masjid invites Allah's mercy and guidance. By asking for His mercy, we are implicitly asking Him to facilitate a good experience for us, which includes finding a comfortable and spiritually beneficial spot to pray and reflect.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity as you are about to enter the masjid, or as you are stepping inside. It's ideally recited with the right foot entering first, just as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us for entering the masjid. Focus on the meaning – you are seeking Allah's vast mercy to envelop your entire experience within His house.
Virtues & Benefits
Entering the masjid with this dua is a beautiful way to begin any worship. It acknowledges that all good comes from Allah and that our ability to perform acts of worship well, and to find peace and comfort in His house, is a direct result of His mercy. Seeking Allah's mercy upon entering His house can lead to a more focused and rewarding prayer experience, and by extension, can help in finding a spot where one can concentrate better without distractions.
