Dua for Seeking Allah's Forgiveness Before Entering the Bathroom

Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim 142 (Bukhari), 375 (Muslim)

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or evil spirits).

Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.

When to Read

This supplication is recommended to be recited just before entering the toilet or bathroom. It's a moment of transition from the purity of our surroundings to a place that is often less pure and may be inhabited by unseen beings. Making this dua is a way of seeking Allah's protection as we enter this space.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a clear intention of seeking Allah's protection. It should be said before stepping into the bathroom. Uttering it quietly is also a practice, as it is a personal plea to Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is more than just a ritual; it's a shield. Bathrooms, by their nature, are places where impurity resides, and historically, they were also considered dwelling places for jinn. By reciting this, we invoke Allah's protection against the evil that might be present – both physical impurities and the malevolent influence of devils. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this to safeguard us, even in the most mundane moments of our day. It reminds us that Allah's presence and protection are sought in every aspect of our lives.

Source & Authentication

Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when he entered the toilet, used to say: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith." (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil ones, male and female).
