Dua for Entering the Toilet: A Reminder of Allah's Creation

Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 142

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from all evil things, male and female.

Bismillah. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.

When to Read

Recite this dua just before entering the toilet or bathroom. It's a moment of transition, moving from the purity of our homes or gathering spaces into a place where impurity resides. This dua is our shield.

How to Read

Recite it sincerely before stepping in with your left foot. Some scholars mention reciting it aloud if there's no one around, and quietly otherwise. The key is the intention and connecting with the meaning of seeking refuge.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound way to remember Allah's protection even in seemingly mundane or less-than-pure environments. It reminds us that no place is beyond His sight or His ability to protect us. By seeking refuge from 'khubuth' (evil spirits, male jinn) and 'khaba'ith' (evil female jinn, wicked things), we acknowledge the unseen realm and affirm our reliance on Allah alone for safety from harm, both spiritual and physical.
