بِسْمِ اللهِ
In the name of Allah.
Bismillah
When to Read
This dua is recited just before entering the bathroom, even if your intention is to perform ghusl (full ritual bath). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to remember Allah's name at all times and in all permissible actions, and this includes entering such a private space.
How to Read
Utter this phrase softly as you are about to step across the threshold into the bathroom. It's a simple yet profound act of remembering Allah and seeking His protection.
Virtues & Benefits
Saying 'Bismillah' before entering the bathroom is a Sunnah practice taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is said to protect us from the evil and unseen entities that are known to inhabit such places. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Indeed, a screen between the jinn and the private parts of the sons of Adam is when one of them enters the lavatory to say 'Bismillah'." This simple utterance is a shield for us, invoking Allah's name to keep us safe.
