اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male devils and female devils (or evil and harmful things).
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith
When to Read
Recite this dua immediately before entering the bathroom, especially if you experience feelings of unease, anxiety, or a sense of being watched or bothered by unseen entities. The bathroom is a place where Shaytan and his ilk are known to congregate, and this dua serves as a powerful shield.
How to Read
Recite this dua clearly and with sincere intention before crossing the threshold into the bathroom. It is recommended to enter with the left foot and exit with the right foot after reciting this supplication, as taught by the Sunnah. Focus on the meaning and seek Allah's protection with a present heart.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, taught to protect us from the evil influences that reside in places of impurity like the bathroom. By invoking Allah's name and seeking refuge, we create a spiritual barrier against jinn and negative energies. This act of remembrance (dhikr) also elevates our spiritual state and reminds us that Allah is our ultimate protector in all circumstances, even those we might find unnerving.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When any one of you enters the lavatory, he should say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil and the evil-doers (or impurity).' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306). Another narration states: 'The Prophet ﷺ, when he entered the privy, used to say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of the devil and his traps.' (Sahih Muslim 375). The scholars have explained that 'khubuth' refers to male devils and 'khaba'ith' refers to female devils.
