Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim 6306 (Bukhari), 375 (Muslim)

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or from evil and wicked things).

Bismillaah, Allahumma innee a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khabaa'ith.

When to Read

This dua is recited specifically before entering the toilet or bathroom. It's a moment when we are most likely to be exposed to impurities and potentially unseen harm, making this supplication a vital shield.

How to Read

Recite this dua before stepping into the bathroom, ideally before crossing the threshold. Begin with 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) as is our practice before any action, and then follow with the rest of the dua. You would typically enter with your left foot after reciting this.

Virtues & Benefits

This beautiful dua is taught to us by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to seek Allah's protection from the jinn and shayateen who are known to inhabit such places. By invoking Allah's name and seeking His refuge, we are safeguarding ourselves from any potential harm, negative influences, or spiritual disturbance that might be present. It's a powerful reminder that even in the most mundane and private moments, Allah's presence and protection are sought, fostering a sense of constant connection and awareness of Him.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When any one of you goes to the toilet, he should say: (Bismillah) Allahumma innee a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khabaa'ith.' (Translation: 'In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils / evil and wicked things.') - Sahih al-Bukhari 6306; Sahih Muslim 375. This hadith is related in multiple chains, with slight variations in wording, but the core meaning remains the same. The 'khubuth' can refer to male devils, and 'khaba'ith' to female devils, or it can be interpreted more generally as all types of evil and wicked things.
