Dua for Entering the Bathroom: Seeking Purity and Protection

Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 142

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil jinn, both male and female.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith

When to Read

This dua is recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet. It's a moment where we are about to engage in a necessary but physically impure act, and it's also a place where Shaytan often congregates. Making this supplication shields us from any potential harm or whispers from the jinn while we are in this vulnerable state.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with the intention of seeking Allah's protection. It's typically recited before stepping in with the left foot, as the Prophet ﷺ taught us to enter with the right foot and exit with the left, associating the left with impurity and the right with honor. The pronunciation should be clear, focusing on the meaning of seeking refuge in Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful shield against the malevolent influences of the jinn. The bathroom, by its nature, is a place associated with impurities and is often a dwelling for jinn. By seeking refuge in Allah, we are asking for protection from their mischief, temptations, and any spiritual harm they might intend. It also reminds us that even in our most private and physically 'unclean' moments, we are still in the presence of Allah and under His care, fostering a sense of constant awareness of Him.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When one of you enters the toilet, he should say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male jinn and the female jinn.' (Transmitted by Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him).
