اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith

When to Read

Recited just before entering the toilet or bathroom.

How to Read

This dua should be recited before one steps into the bathroom. It is recommended to enter with the left foot and exit with the right foot, in accordance with the Sunnah. This supplication is a shield against the evil that may reside in such places, asking Allah's protection from impurity and malevolent forces.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua as a means of seeking Allah's protection from the evil spirits (shayatin) that are known to inhabit places of impurity like bathrooms. By reciting it, we are consciously invoking Allah's safeguarding presence, ensuring our spiritual and physical well-being even in spaces that are inherently associated with uncleanliness. It's a simple yet profound practice that elevates a mundane act into one of remembrance and reliance on Allah.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet ﷺ, when he entered the toilet, used to say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil ones, male and female). Sahih al-Bukhari 6306. Similar narration in Sahih Muslim 375, with slight variation in wording of the dua: 'Bismillah. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.' (In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil ones, male and female).
