بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male devils and female devils.
Bismillah, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.
When to Read
This supplication is recited just before entering the place of relief (the bathroom or toilet). It is a crucial moment because these places are known to be frequented by Shaytan and where one is most vulnerable to his whispers and attempts to incite evil.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity before stepping into the bathroom. It is recommended to enter with your left foot after reciting this, and to exit with your right foot after making the dua for leaving the bathroom. This small act of remembrance protects us even in places of seclusion.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful shield against the whispers and temptations of Shaytan, especially in a place where one is physically vulnerable and spiritually exposed. By seeking Allah's refuge, we acknowledge our weakness and His absolute power to protect us from unseen evils that aim to corrupt our thoughts and actions. It turns a mundane act into an act of worship and a demonstration of our reliance on Allah.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you wants to enter the toilet, he should say: Bismillah, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306). The term 'khubuth' refers to male devils and 'khaba'ith' refers to female devils, indicating seeking refuge from all forms of Shaytan that inhabit such places.
