Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim 142 (Bukhari), 375 (Muslim)

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male devils and female devils (evil spirits).

Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith

When to Read

This dua should be recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet. The bathroom is a place where impurities are removed and also a dwelling place for jinn, especially male and female devils. Therefore, seeking Allah's protection before entering is a wise precaution taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction before you step into the bathroom. It is recommended to say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) before any dua or action, and this dua begins with it. Understand that you are seeking Allah's ultimate protection in a place that requires special care. Some scholars mention that when entering, one starts with the left foot, and upon exiting, one starts with the right foot. This is an etiquette that reflects the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.

Virtues & Benefits

By reciting this dua, we are following the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is a source of blessings and protection. The Prophet ﷺ taught us this specific dua to seek refuge from the evil of male and female devils who inhabit such places. This act demonstrates our reliance on Allah (Tawakkul) and acknowledges His power over all creation, seen and unseen. It helps maintain a spiritual barrier, keeping us safe from any harm or negative influences associated with such environments, and reminds us that even in private moments, Allah is with us.
