بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from evil [males] and evil [females] jinn.
Bismillah. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.
When to Read
This dua should be recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet area. It is a specific supplication for a private and potentially spiritually vulnerable space.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity before stepping into the bathroom. It is recommended to begin with 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) before the main supplication. This dua is recited verbally, with a clear intention of seeking Allah's protection.
Virtues & Benefits
The bathroom is a place where one removes their outer garments and is in a state of physical vulnerability. It is also known in Islamic tradition to be a dwelling place for jinn. By reciting this dua, we are invoking Allah's name and seeking His protection from any evil, especially from the jinn (both male and female) who might inhabit such places. This act reflects our understanding that even in the most private moments, Allah's presence and protection are sought, maintaining a sense of constant remembrance (dhikr) and reliance on Him. It purifies our intention and actions, even in mundane matters.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When any one of you wants to enter the toilet, he should say: Bismillah. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306, Sahih Muslim 375). The scholars explain that 'al-khubuth' refers to the devils (male jinn) and 'al-khaba'ith' refers to the she-devils (female jinn).
