Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim 6306 (Bukhari), 375 (Muslim)

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or evil and wicked things).

Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.

When to Read

This dua is recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet. It's a moment when we often feel most vulnerable, being alone and in a place of impurity. Seeking Allah's protection here is a beautiful way to remember Him even in such private moments.

How to Read

Recite this dua as you are about to step into the bathroom. It's customary to enter with the left foot after reciting this dua, and to exit with the right foot after reciting the dua for exiting the bathroom. The intention is to seek Allah's refuge from any harm or evil, both seen and unseen, associated with this place.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful shield, seeking Allah's protection from the Shayateen (devils) who are known to frequent places of impurity. By reciting it, we are acknowledging Allah's dominion over all places and seeking His safeguard for our spiritual and physical well-being. It reminds us that even in solitude, we are never truly alone, and Allah is our ultimate protector. This practice stems from the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, showing us how every aspect of our lives, no matter how mundane, can be a source of blessing and connection with our Creator.
