بِسْمِ اللهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or evil things and evil dwellers).
Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.
When to Read
This supplication is recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet. It's a moment when we are preparing to enter a place associated with impurity, and it's a beautiful reminder of seeking Allah's protection even in such private moments.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity before stepping into the bathroom. It's a way of acknowledging Allah's presence and seeking His safeguard against any potential harm, whether physical or spiritual, that might be present in such places.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua invokes Allah's name and seeks His protection from malevolent forces. The 'khubuth' and 'khaba'ith' are understood to refer to the male and female devils who are known to inhabit places of impurity. By reciting this, we are asking Allah to shield us from their mischief and to purify our experience even in this mundane necessity.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When any one of you wants to enter the privy, he should say: Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306). Another narration in Sahih Muslim (375) states: 'The veil between the eyes of the jinn and the 'awrah (private parts) of the children of Adam is by saying Bismillah.' This highlights how the utterance of Allah's name creates a barrier against unseen evils.
