بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or from impurity and harmful things).
Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.
When to Read
This supplication is recited just before entering the toilet or bathroom. It's a moment often overlooked, but in Islam, even these private spaces require seeking Allah's protection.
How to Read
Recite this dua aloud or softly before you step into the bathroom. It is traditionally understood to be recited upon intending to enter, before one's feet cross the threshold. It's recommended to enter with the left foot and exit with the right foot, as this is the general Sunnah for entering places of potential harm or uncleanness, and the opposite for leaving places of honor. The dua itself is a shield against the unseen evils that may reside in such places.
Virtues & Benefits
By reciting this dua, we invoke Allah's name and seek His protection from the male and female devils (al-khubuth wal-khaba'ith). These terms can refer to shayatin (devils) that inhabit such places, or more broadly to all forms of impurity, filth, and harmful things, both physical and spiritual. It's a beautiful reminder that even in our most private moments, we are under Allah's watch, and seeking His refuge is our strongest defense. This practice, part of the Sunnah, helps purify our actions and our environments, bringing blessings and warding off harm, including physical ailments that can arise from uncleanliness or unseen influences.
