Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from [all] evils and [all] evil females/jinn.

Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.

When to Read

This supplication should be recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet area. It's a simple yet profound practice to invoke Allah's protection as we enter a place that is often associated with impurities and the dwelling of unseen beings.

How to Read

Recite this dua clearly and with sincere intention before stepping into the bathroom. It is recommended to enter with the left foot and exit with the right foot, reversing the general etiquette for entering and leaving one's home, as the bathroom is a place of impurity.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a shield against the whispers and harm of Shaytan and the jinn who often frequent places of impurity. By seeking refuge in Allah, we purify our intention and ask for His divine protection, ensuring our actions and presence in such a place are covered by His mercy. It acknowledges that even in mundane acts, we rely on Allah's safeguarding.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you enters the toilet, he should say: Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306). The word 'khubuth' refers to male devils and 'khaba'ith' refers to female devils.
