Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim 6306 (Bukhari), 375 (Muslim)

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or from evil and wicked things).

Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.

When to Read

This dua is recited *before* entering the bathroom. It's a moment of transition from the general space into a place that requires special attention to purity, both physically and spiritually.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincerity before stepping into the bathroom. It’s best recited aloud, but can also be said softly or in the heart as you approach the entrance. The intention behind it is key: acknowledging Allah’s presence and seeking His protection even in these private spaces.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound reminder that even in the most mundane and private of our affairs, we are connected to Allah. By seeking refuge in Him, we invoke His protection from the unseen evils that might linger in such places, as well as from any spiritual impurity that could afflict us. It signifies our commitment to maintaining cleanliness and purity in all aspects of our lives, reflecting the Islamic emphasis on cleanliness ('purity is half of faith'). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this practice, showing us how to imbue our daily routines with remembrance of Allah and seeking His assistance.
