اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male devils and female devils (or from evil and evil spirits).
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith
When to Read
This dua is recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet area. It's a personal supplication to seek protection as we enter a place that is often associated with impurities and the unseen.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity before stepping into the bathroom. It is typically recited while standing at the entrance, before one places their foot inside. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah from evil in various circumstances, and this is one such occasion.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is profoundly significant. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the best of creation and the most knowledgeable about Allah's protection, would not utter a word in vain. By seeking refuge in Allah, we are acknowledging His absolute power over all things, seen and unseen. The bathroom is a place where one is particularly vulnerable, both physically and spiritually, due to the nature of the place. This dua asks for protection from malevolent jinn (khubuth) and female jinn (khaba'ith) who might inhabit such places, and also from all forms of evil. It's a beautiful reminder that even in the most mundane and private moments of our lives, Allah's protection is sought, purifying our intentions and our actions.
