Dua for Entering the Bathroom: Invoking Allah's Name and Seeking Purity

Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or evil things and evil beings).

Bismillah, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.

When to Read

This dua is recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet. It's a practice taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to seek Allah's protection as we enter a place that is often associated with impurities and where Shayateen might dwell.

How to Read

Recite this dua softly before you step into the bathroom. It is recommended to recite it before any other action within the bathroom. The intention behind it is a sincere seeking of Allah's protection from all forms of evil, seen and unseen, that may be present in such places.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua is a profound act of remembering Allah and seeking His protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the most pious of creation, did not enter the bathroom without seeking refuge in Allah. This practice shields us from the whispers and mischief of Shayateen, purifies our intention, and acknowledges Allah's sovereignty over all places, even those we deem unclean. It's a simple yet powerful habit that invites Allah's blessings and safeguarding into a potentially vulnerable space.
