Virtues & Benefits
This dua serves as a powerful shield, invoking Allah's protection from harmful influences, both seen and unseen, that may be present in places of impurity. It reminds us that even in the most mundane and private of spaces, we are connected to Allah and seeking His refuge. The 'khubuth' refers to male devils, and 'khaba'ith' refers to female devils (or the evil spirits themselves). By seeking refuge, we are safeguarding our physical and spiritual well-being.
Source & Authentication
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ used to say, when he entered the lavatory: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306, Sahih Muslim 375). The scholars explain that 'khubuth' are the male devils and 'khaba'ith' are the female devils.
