بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or from evil and wicked things).
Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.
When to Read
This dua is recited immediately before entering the bathroom or toilet. It's a moment many overlook, but it's a perfect opportunity to remember Allah and seek His protection.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity just as you are about to step into the bathroom. It's a quiet moment of seeking refuge. The hadith mentions that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would cover himself (his 'awrah) until he was inside the enclosure of the toilet.
Virtues & Benefits
This simple act serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it acknowledges that even in mundane activities, we are under Allah's watch and protection. Seeking refuge from 'khubuth' (evil spirits or devils) is a way of safeguarding ourselves, as places like the toilet are sometimes associated with such entities. More broadly, it instills mindfulness and gratitude. By remembering Allah before such a private act, we are implicitly thanking Him for the very bodily functions that allow us to live. This gratitude extends to the health and well-being that make these functions possible, a blessing we often take for granted until it's compromised. It reminds us that Allah is present in all aspects of our lives, the seen and unseen.
