Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from all evil jinn, male and female.

Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith

When to Read

Recite this dua just before entering the bathroom or toilet. It's a beautiful way to acknowledge that even in a place of impurity, Allah's protection is sought, and His name is remembered.

How to Read

Recite this sincerely before stepping in with your left foot (as is the sunnah for entering the bathroom). The act of saying 'Bismillah' reminds us that Allah's name is invoked for all matters, even those we might consider mundane or private. The seeking of refuge is a humble recognition of our dependence on Him for protection from unseen evils.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful shield against the negative influences and unseen evils that may reside in places of impurity. By invoking Allah's name and seeking refuge, we purify our intention and seek divine protection for ourselves while in the bathroom. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua as a way to maintain remembrance of Allah and seek His safeguarding in all circumstances, big or small, private or public.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When one of you enters the toilet, he should say: 'Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith'. (In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from all evil jinn, male and female.)' Sahih al-Bukhari 6306. In another narration, Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'The Prophet ﷺ, when he went to relieve himself, used to say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bikamin al-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil jinn, male and female.)' Sahih al-Bukhari 142.
