Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim 142 (Bukhari), 375 (Muslim)

بِسْمِ اللهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male and female devils (or from evil and wicked things).

Bismillahi, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.

When to Read

This dua is recited immediately before entering the bathroom or toilet area. It's a practice the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to acknowledge Allah's protection even in a place often associated with impurities.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with the intention of seeking Allah's protection. Utter it before you step inside the bathroom. Some scholars mention that one should say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) first, as it contains the blessing and protection of Allah's name. The phrase 'khubuth' and 'khaba'ith' are understood by scholars to refer to the male and female devils who are known to frequent such places, or more generally, all forms of evil and wicked things.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua is a means of seeking Allah's protection from the evil influences and unseen entities that may be present in places of impurity. It's a beautiful reminder that no place is devoid of Allah's presence and His ability to protect us. By seeking refuge, we acknowledge our reliance on Him and His power over all matters, seen and unseen.
