Dua for Entering the Bathroom

Entering Bathroom
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim 142, 375

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male devils and female devils (or from evil and wicked things).

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith.

When to Read

This supplication is recited just before entering the bathroom or toilet area. It's a way to consciously seek Allah's protection before entering a place that is often associated with impurities and where the jinn reside.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with the intention of seeking refuge in Allah. It is generally recited verbally before stepping into the bathroom. Some scholars mention reciting it once, while others mention reciting it before entering and also upon exiting.

Virtues & Benefits

By reciting this dua, we are actively seeking Allah's protection from negative influences, unseen evils, and spiritual harm. The bathroom is a place where one is particularly vulnerable due to being unclothed and often in a state of heedlessness. This dua helps us maintain our remembrance of Allah even in such private spaces, safeguarding us from the whispers of Shaytan and any potential harm from the jinn who frequent these areas.
