اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male devils and female devils.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith

When to Read

This supplication is recited just before entering the toilet or bathroom. It's a way of seeking Allah's protection as we enter a place that is often associated with impurities and the dwelling of jinn.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity before stepping into the toilet. It's often recommended to enter with the left foot and exit with the right, mirroring the Prophet's ﷺ practice for entering and exiting places of prayer, but in reverse for the toilet.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge with Allah is a powerful shield against unseen evils. By reciting this dua, we are asking Allah to protect us from any harmful influences or mischievous jinn that may reside in such places. It's a reminder that even in seemingly mundane acts, we are under Allah's watchful care.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When any one of you enters the lavatory, he should say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male devils and female devils. (He said this) three times.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 142). Another narration states: 'Verily, these places are frequented by devils, so when one of you enters, let him say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the male devils and female devils.'
