بِسْمِ اللهِ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْخُبُثِ وَالْخَبَائِثِ
In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil ones, both male and female.
Bismillah, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.
When to Read
This dua should be recited just before stepping into the restroom or toilet area. It's a protective supplication, invoking Allah's name and seeking His refuge before entering a place that is often associated with impurities and unseen evils (shayatin).
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely before entering. It is recommended to do so before taking the first step inside. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us to enter with the left foot and exit with the right foot, so keep that Sunnah in mind as well.
Virtues & Benefits
By reciting this dua, we are seeking Allah's protection from the harmful influences and mischievous actions of the jinn (shayatin) who are known to frequent such places. It's a simple yet powerful way to maintain our remembrance of Allah (dhikr) even in a place where worldly affairs are attended to, purifying our actions and our surroundings. This practice also fosters a sense of awareness and humility, reminding us that Allah's presence and protection encompass us everywhere.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you wants to enter the privy, he should say: Bismillah, Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal khubuthi wal khaba'ith.' (Narrated by Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih al-Bukhari 6306 and Sahih Muslim 375). The word 'khubuth' refers to male devils and 'khaba'ith' refers to female devils.
