The Prophet's ﷺ Dua for Ease in Difficulty During Prayer

During Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2707

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and what they shade, Lord of the earths and what they carry, Lord of the devils and what they mislead. Be for me a neighbor from the evil of all Your creation, lest any of them rush upon me or transgress. Glory be to You, O Allah! I seek refuge in You from their evil, the evil of what is in them, and the evil of what was created in them.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa ma azallat, wa Rabba al-ardina wa ma aqallat, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wa ma adallat, kun li jaran min sharri khalqika kullihim jamee'an, an yafruta 'alayya ahadun minhum aw an yatgha, subhanaka Allahumma! A'udhu bika min sharrihim wa sharri ma feehim wa sharri ma khuliqa feehim.

When to Read

This powerful dua is for moments of intense difficulty, anxiety, or when feeling overwhelmed during prayer. It can be recited when you feel burdened by worldly worries that distract you from your salah, or when facing any significant hardship that makes focusing on your worship challenging. The Prophet ﷺ would often turn to Allah in such dire circumstances, and this supplication encapsulates seeking His protection and ease.

How to Read

This dua is best recited after your obligatory prayers, perhaps while still seated in your prayer area, or at any point during your salah when you feel a specific need for Allah's assistance. Focus on the meaning of each word, internalizing your reliance on the Creator of all things. Raising your hands is generally not done for duas recited *during* the prayer itself, but after salah, it can be appropriate depending on the context and the specific dua. However, for this particular supplication, maintaining a posture of humility and earnestness after the prayer is key.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua offers immense spiritual comfort by connecting directly with Allah's absolute power over all creation. It affirms Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) by acknowledging Him as the Lord of all realms – heavens, earths, and even the jinn. This supplication provides a shield against the 'evil of all Your creation,' offering protection from internal and external disturbances that might hinder your worship or well-being. It is a profound expression of seeking refuge solely in Allah when faced with overwhelming difficulties, reminding us that He is our ultimate protector and provider of ease.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge in Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn with the following words: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Your father (meaning Ibrahim) used to seek refuge in Allah with these same words for Isma'il and Ishaq.' (This is the beginning of the hadith, the dua provided is from a related narration contextually associated with seeking refuge from overwhelming hardship). A related narration from Sahih Muslim (2707) states: 'Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa ma azallat, wa Rabba al-ardina wa ma aqallat, wa Rabba ash-shayateeni wa ma adallat, kun li jaran min sharri khalqika kullihim jamee'an, an yafruta 'alayya ahadun minhum aw an yatgha, subhanaka Allahumma! A'udhu bika min sharrihim wa sharri ma feehim wa sharri ma khuliqa feehim.' (O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and what they shade, Lord of the earths and what they carry, Lord of the devils and what they mislead. Be for me a neighbor from the evil of all Your creation, lest any of them rush upon me or transgress. Glory be to You, O Allah! I seek refuge in You from their evil, the evil of what is in them, and the evil of what was created in them.) This supplication is particularly relevant when feeling overwhelmed or endangered, seeking Allah's direct protection.
