سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ، وَلاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ

Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. Blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You.

When to Read

This is the supplication the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to recite in the opening supplication (Dua al-Istiftah) at the beginning of his prayer, before reciting the Quran. It also serves as a way to rectify any unintentional mistakes or lapses in concentration during the prayer, implicitly seeking Allah's perfection to cover any shortcomings.

How to Read

Recite this dua silently after saying 'Allahu Akbar' (Takbiratul Ihram) and before starting your recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah. Focus on the meaning of the words, acknowledging Allah's absolute perfection and glory, and seeking His help to maintain mindfulness throughout the prayer.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua helps in establishing the greatness of Allah before engaging in the prayer, setting a tone of reverence and humility. It is a beautiful way to seek Allah's perfection to overlook any imperfections in our worship. The Prophet's ﷺ practice of this dua at the start of his prayer signifies its importance in purifying our intention and seeking divine acceptance for our salah.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Sa'id that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for prayer, he would say Takbir. Then he would say: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. Blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You.' (repeated three times).
