Seeking the Prophet's Intercession on the Day of Judgment During Prayer

During Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6306

O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad al-Wasilah and al-Fadhilah, and raise him to the praised station which You have promised him.

Allahumma Rabba hadhihid-da'watit-tammah, was-salatil-qa'imah, ati Muhammadanil-wasilata wal-fadhilah, wab'ath-hu maqaman mahmudan alladhi wa'adtah.

When to Read

This beautiful supplication is recommended to be recited after saying the Tashahhud in the final sitting of any obligatory or supererogatory prayer, just before the Salam. It's a profound moment to reflect on our need for the Prophet's ﷺ intercession.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and deep reflection. Understand that you are asking Allah ﷻ to grant our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ the high status he deserves and the honor of intercession on the Day of Judgment. Say it in a clear, audible voice (if praying alone) or a subdued voice (if praying in congregation, following the Imam). Focus your heart on the meaning of the words as you speak them.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua is a direct fulfillment of the Prophet's ﷺ instruction. By asking for 'al-Wasilah' (a high status in Paradise) and 'al-Fadhilah' (excellence), and for him to be raised to the 'Maqam Mahmud' (the Praised Station), we are actively seeking his intercession on the Day of Judgment. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'When you hear the Mu'adhdhin, repeat what he says, then ask Allah to grant me al-Wasilah, for it is a station in Paradise befitting only one of Allah's servants, and I hope that I will be that servant. And whoever asks Allah to grant me al-Wasilah, he will have my intercession.' (Sahih Muslim 384) This specific wording, found in Sahih al-Bukhari, solidifies the request for his intercession directly before concluding our prayers.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, 'Whoever says when he hears the call to prayer: > **Arabic:** اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ، وَالصَّلاةِ القَائِمَةِ، آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الوَسِيلَةَ وَالفَضِيلَةَ، وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ > > **Translation:** "O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad al-Wasilah and al-Fadhilah, and raise him to the praised station which You have promised him." Then the intercession on my behalf will be guaranteed for him.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306). Note: While the hadith text in Bukhari mentions this is said upon hearing the call to prayer, the scholars have derived its recitation after Tashahhud in prayer as well, as it is a supplication directly related to the Prophet ﷺ and his intercession, fitting for the moments before seeking refuge from the torment of the grave and the trial of the Dajjal.
