Seeking the Prophet's Intercession on the Day of Judgment

During Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 770

O Allah, Lord of Jibra'eel, Mika'eel, and Israfeel, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, You judge between Your servants regarding that over which they differed. Guide me to the truth regarding that which they differed, by Your permission. Indeed, You guide whomever You will to a straight path.

Allahumma Rabba Jibra'eela wa Mika'eela wa Israfeela, Fatiras-samawati wal-ard, 'Alimal-ghaybi wash-shahadah, Anta tahkumu bayna 'ibadika fima kanu fihi yakhtalifoon, Ihdini lima-khtulifa fihi minal-haqqi bi idhnika, innaka tahdi man tasha'u ila siratin mustaqeem.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is specifically taught to be recited after the Tashahhud, before the Tasleem (final salutations) in the obligatory and voluntary prayers. It's a moment when our prayers are poised for acceptance, making it an ideal time to ask for guidance and to seek the Prophet's (peace be upon him) intercession on the Day of Judgment. Imagine yourself standing before Allah, your heart full of hope, asking Him to guide you to the truth amidst life's disagreements, and to grant you the Prophet's (peace be upon him) intercession.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and deep contemplation. Utter the words clearly after completing your Tashahhud, while still seated in prayer. Feel the weight of asking Allah, the Knower of all things, to guide you and to grant you the intercession of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This is a personal plea, a heartfelt request to the One who controls all affairs.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a direct supplication taught by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself to a companion, indicating its immense importance. It encompasses asking Allah for guidance to the truth on matters of disagreement, a crucial aspect of our lives. More profoundly, it indirectly leads to the hope of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) intercession on the Day of Judgment, as seeking guidance and following his Sunnah are pathways to earning his favor on that tremendous day. Allah says, 'And of the night, [O Muhammad], pray within it as additional [worship] - perhaps your Lord will raise you to a praiseworthy station' (Al-Isra 17:79), indicating the high status the Prophet (peace be upon him) holds and the desire we should have to be associated with his intercession.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught her this supplication to say in prayer: 'Allahumma Rabba Jibra'eela wa Mika'eela wa Israfeela, Fatiras-samawati wal-ard, 'Alimal-ghaybi wash-shahadah, Anta tahkumu bayna 'ibadika fima kanu fihi yakhtalifoon, Ihdini lima-khtulifa fihi minal-haqqi bi idhnika, innaka tahdi man tasha'u ila siratin mustaqeem.'
