O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave, and from the torment of the Fire, and from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhab al-qabr, wa min 'adhab an-nar, wa min fitnat al-hayaati wal-mamaat, wa min sharri fitnat al-Maseeh ad-Dajjal
When to Read
This is a profound supplication the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to recite after the Tashahhud (the final sitting) in the prayer, just before giving the final Tasleem (salutations). It's a critical moment to turn to Allah with sincerity, seeking His protection from the most terrifying stages that await us: the grave, the Hellfire, and the tribulations of this life and the hereafter.
How to Read
Recite this dua with full conviction and humility after finishing the Tashahhud and before saying 'Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah' to the right and then to the left to end the prayer. Focus on the meaning of each phrase and feel the urgency of seeking Allah's protection.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses seeking refuge from four extremely grave matters: 1. **Torment of the Grave ('adhab al-qabr):** The grave is the first of the hereafter's abodes. Its trials and torments can be severe for those whose deeds do not earn Allah's mercy. 2. **Torment of the Fire ('adhab an-nar):** The Hellfire, with its unimaginable punishments, is the ultimate destination for the disobedient if not for Allah's forgiveness. 3. **Trials of life and death (fitnat al-hayaati wal-mamaat):** This covers the temptations and difficulties we face during our worldly existence and the agony and questions of the moment of death. 4. **Evil of the trial of the False Messiah (fitnat al-Maseeh ad-Dajjal):** Seeking refuge from Dajjal, whose coming will be the greatest trial humanity will ever face, culminating in widespread disbelief and corruption.

Narrated Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet ﷺ used to teach them (his companions) to seek refuge in Allah from the torment of the grave and from the torment of the Fire, and from the evil of the Dajjal, and from the afflictions of life and death. He would say: 'When any one of you finishes the Tashahhud, he should seek refuge in Allah from four things, saying: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, and from the punishment of the grave, and from the trial of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the Dajjal.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1377). In another narration by Muslim: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave, and from the torment of the Fire, and from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).' (Sahih Muslim 588)
