Dua for the Worried Worrier: Finding Peace in Salah

During Prayer
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 23976

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective, and Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the hidden knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my sorrow, and a remover of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly beneficial when you feel overwhelmed by worries and anxieties, especially during your prayer (Salah). If your heart feels heavy and your mind races with concerns, incorporating this supplication can bring immense relief. You can recite it during your prostration (Sujud), or after the Tashahhud before the Salam, when you are in direct conversation with Allah.

How to Read

This is a personal supplication addressed directly to Allah. Recite it with sincerity and heartfelt conviction, acknowledging Allah's absolute control and wisdom. Believe that He is the source of all relief and the remover of all distress. Speak to Him as a humble servant, knowing He hears your every word and understands your deepest feelings.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua addresses the root of worry and sorrow by turning to the ultimate source of peace and guidance: Allah and His Book. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a man who was suffering from severe worry and distress. By asking Allah to make the Qur'an the 'spring of the heart,' it signifies nourishment and life, bringing joy and growth even in difficult times. It's a spiritual balm that clarifies the chest (light), removes sadness, and dispels anxieties, transforming your inner state.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Shall I not teach you a comprehensive supplication? When you are worried or distressed, you should say: Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.' The man said: 'I said it, and Allah removed my worry and distress.' (Reported by Ahmad and others, graded Hasan by some scholars).
