O Allah, forgive the believing men and believing women, and the Muslim men and Muslim women, and unite their hearts, and set right that which is between them, and make them victorious over Your enemy and their enemy. O Allah, curse the disbelievers from the People of the Book who prevent others from Your path.
Allahumma ighfir lil-mu'mineena wal-mu'minat, wal-muslimeena wal-muslimat, wa allif bayna quloobihim, wa aslih dhata baynihim, wansurhum 'ala 'aduwwika wa 'aduwwihim. Allahumma il'an kafarat ahlil-kitabi alladheena yasuddoona 'an sabeelik.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is particularly recommended to be recited during the final sitting (tashahhud) of the prayer, just before the tasleem (salutation). It's a moment when our hearts are most connected to Allah, making our duas more potent. Imagine yourself sitting between the hands of Allah, asking for His boundless mercy not just for yourself, but for the entire Ummah.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a hopeful heart. As you say each word, visualize the believers and Muslims you know, and even those you don't. Feel the weight of the request for forgiveness and unity. This is not just a recitation; it's a heartfelt plea to the Most Merciful for the well-being of your brothers and sisters in faith. Make sure to pronounce the Arabic clearly, focusing on the meaning behind each phrase.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses profound benefits. Firstly, it demonstrates our deep concern for the Ummah, reflecting the prophetic teaching that 'None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself' (Sahih al-Bukhari 13). By asking for forgiveness and unity, we are actively contributing to the spiritual health and strength of the Muslim community. It also shows our loyalty to Allah by asking for victory against those who oppose His path, while seeking refuge from the evil of the disbelievers who actively work against Islam. Reciting this in prayer ensures our supplications are made at a time when Allah is most receptive.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua to his companions. In the narration found in Sahih Muslim, Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you finishes the last tashahhud, let him seek refuge in Allah from four things, and then supplicate what appeals to him: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Hell, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of the Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trials of life and death.' Then one of the Muslims said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, and what is the dua for the believing men and women?' He said: 'O Allah, forgive the believing men and believing women, and the Muslim men and Muslim women, and unite their hearts, and set right that which is between them, and make them victorious over Your enemy and their enemy. O Allah, curse the disbelievers from the People of the Book who prevent others from Your path.'
