O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, just as You sent prayers upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Verily, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, bestow Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as You bestowed blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Verily, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
When to Read
This is the wording of the Salat upon the Prophet ﷺ, which we are encouraged to recite in our prayers, especially during the Tashahhud (the final sitting before concluding the prayer). Reciting this ensures we remember the Prophet ﷺ, his status, and the blessings Allah has bestowed upon him, and by extension, us. It is a direct way to connect our worship to the one Allah chose to send as a mercy to mankind.
How to Read
This dua, the Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ, is a fundamental part of the Tashahhud. Recite it with sincerity and mindfulness, reflecting on the blessings Allah has showered upon His Messenger. Ensure proper pronunciation and rhythm as taught by the Sunnah. This isn't just a set of words; it's an act of worship that brings us closer to Allah and His Messenger.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting the Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ is a means of gaining Allah's mercy and forgiveness. The Prophet ﷺ himself said: 'Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him ten times.' (Sahih Muslim 384). By remembering him and asking Allah to send blessings upon him, we are also asking Allah for our own needs, as it is a highly accepted form of supplication. It also brings us closer to the Prophet's ﷺ intercession on the Day of Judgment, as he said: 'The person nearest to me on the Day of Resurrection will be the one who sends the most blessings upon me.' (Tirmidhi 484 - Hasan).
Source & Authentication
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'When you hear the Mu'adhin, repeat what he says, and then ask Allah to bless me, for whoever asks Allah to bless me once, Allah will bless him tenfold. Then ask Allah for Al-Wasila for me, for it is a station in Paradise which suits only Allah's servants, and I hope that I shall be that servant. And whoever asks Allah for Al-Wasila for me, will have my intercession guaranteed.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6306). The specific form of Salawat mentioned in the entry is widely accepted and taught by the Prophet ﷺ in prayer, as documented in various hadith collections, including Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.
