Dua for Remembering the Heaviness of Deeds on the Day of Judgment in Prayer

During Prayer
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 1574

O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, and to shun evil deeds, and to love the poor. And I ask You to forgive me and have mercy on me. And if You intend to try a people, then take me to Yourself without testing me. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.

Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'la khayrat, wa tark al-munkarat, wa hubb al-masakin, wa an taghfir li wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fitnata qawmin fa tawaffani ilayha ghayra maftun. As'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.

When to Read

This dua is particularly beneficial to recite during the *tashahhud* (the final sitting) of your prayers, before the *tasleem* (the final salutation). It's a profound supplication to make when you are in a state of intense focus and closeness to Allah, asking for guidance and the strength to remain steadfast.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a humble heart, preferably after reciting the *tashahhud* and before concluding your prayer with *tasleem*. Focus on the meaning of each phrase as you utter it. Imagine Allah listening to your earnest plea for His love and for the ability to do deeds that please Him.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for spiritual well-being. It asks for the ability to actively pursue good deeds and consciously avoid wrongdoing, a cornerstone of righteous living. Furthermore, it seeks Allah's mercy and forgiveness, essential for any believer. The dua also includes a request for protection from trials and tribulations, and crucially, for the love of Allah and those who love Him, which is the ultimate source of inner peace and motivation for good deeds. Reciting it in prayer reminds us that our actions, both outward and inward, are weighed by Allah, and it prompts us to seek His help in ensuring they tip the scales in our favor on the Day of Judgment.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah bin Mas'ud: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught me the *tashahhud* in the same way as he taught me a Surah from the Qur'an, and he used to say: "We say: All praises and compliments are for Allah. All these are the rights of Allah. We should not worship anyone besides Allah. And all obedience is for Allah. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of ourselves and from the evil of our evil deeds." Then he taught us the following dua: "Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'la khayrat, wa tark al-munkarat, wa hubb al-masakin, wa an taghfir li wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fitnata qawmin fa tawaffani ilayha ghayra maftun. As'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuk, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik."
