O Allah, I ask You, O Allah, O Most Gracious, O Most Merciful, O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining, by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over all creation, grant me richness in my soul, certainty in my heart, sincerity in my deeds, light in my sight, guidance in my chest, and detachment from this world, and desire for what is with You.
Allahumma inni as'aluka ya Allahu, ya Rahmanu, ya Rahim, ya Hayyu ya Qayyum, bi 'ilmika minal-ghaybi wa qudratika 'alal-khalqi ajma'in, an taj'al al-ghina fi nafsi, wal-yaqina fi qalbi, wal-ikhlasa fi 'amali, wan-nura fi basari, wan-nasihata fi sadri, wa zuh'adatan fid-dunya wa raghbatan fima 'indaka.
When to Read
This beautiful dua is particularly potent when recited during the prostration (sujood) of a voluntary prayer (nafl) or even a required prayer (fard) when you feel a deep connection and desire to turn to Allah's attributes. It's a moment when we are closest to our Lord, and our hearts are most receptive to His mercy and forgiveness.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning of each attribute of Allah mentioned (Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim, Al-Hayy, Al-Qayyum) and truly internalize the request for inner strength, clarity, and a focus on the hereafter. Uttering it during prostration, when you are physically lowering yourself in submission, amplifies its sincerity.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication draws upon Allah's perfect knowledge and all-encompassing power. By invoking His names, especially 'Ar-Rahman' (The Most Gracious) and 'Ar-Rahim' (The Most Merciful), we are directly asking for His boundless mercy and forgiveness. The request for richness in the soul, certainty, sincerity, and light in sight signifies a spiritual transformation, aligning our inner state with Allah's pleasure and directing our desires towards what is truly valuable – what lies with Him.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught a man to supplicate in his prayer: 'O Allah, I ask You, O Allah, the One Who is Unique, the Self-Sufficient Master, Who has not begotten, nor was begotten, and there is none like unto Him, that You forgive me my sins.' (This is a different dua but highlights the Prophet's ﷺ teaching of asking Allah by His attributes). The longer dua provided in the main entry is a comprehensive supplication seeking spiritual wealth and focus on the hereafter, often taught for seeking contentment and guidance.
