سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، تَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ، وَلاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ

When to Read

This beautiful invocation is recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ immediately after beginning the obligatory prayer, before reciting Surah Al-Fatihah. It's a powerful way to set the tone for your prayer, consciously acknowledging Allah's perfection and greatness before delving into the recitation.

How to Read

Recite this dua silently after saying 'Allahu Akbar' (Takbiratul Ihram) and before beginning to recite Al-Fatihah. It's an opening supplication that helps the heart focus and remember Who you are standing before. Try to feel the meaning of each word as you say it, letting the acknowledgment of Allah's magnificence fill your heart.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua helps to purify our intention and focus our hearts on Allah, the Lord of all creation, at the very outset of our prayer. It establishes a profound sense of awe and reverence, reminding us of Allah's absolute perfection and uniqueness before we engage in the core recitation of the prayer. This act directly combats the whispers of Shaytan that seek to distract us, grounding us in the reality of Who we are supplicating to.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commenced the prayer, he would remain silent for a while. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you! You remain silent for a while between the Takbir and the recitation. What do you say?" He said: "I say: 'O Allah, I have turned my face towards Him Who brought forth the heavens and the earth, as a Hanif, and I am not of the Mushrikun. Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. Blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You.'" [Sahih Muslim 496]
