Dua for Remembering Allah's Attributes and Names in Prayer

During Prayer
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 391

O Allah, I ask You by every Name that You have called Yourself, or have taught to any of Your creation, or have revealed in Your Book, or have kept exclusively to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries.

Allahumma inni as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitābika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabī'a qalbī, wa nūra sadri, wa jalā'a huzni, wa dhahāba hammi.

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly fitting during the prostration (sujood) or the final sitting (tashahhud) of your prayer. It's a moment when you are closest to your Lord, seeking His mercy and guidance. Use it when you feel your mind wandering or when you wish to deepen your connection with Allah by reflecting on His perfect Names and Attributes, and how they manifest in the divine guidance of the Qur'an.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, internalizing the request to make the Qur'an a source of spiritual nourishment and peace. It's best recited from memory if possible, to maintain focus and connection during your prayer, especially when in prostration or during the final sitting.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a profound way to invoke Allah using His most beautiful Names. By asking Allah through the very Names He has chosen for Himself, we are employing a powerful means of supplication. It seeks to make the Qur'an, the word of Allah, a source of spiritual renewal ('springtime'), illumination ('light'), and emotional healing ('banisher of sadness and reliever of worries'). This connects our prayer directly to Allah's divine speech, enhancing both the spiritual and emotional benefits of our worship.
