Dua for Reciting Al-Fatihah with Full Concentration

During Prayer
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 1522

اللَّهُمَّ أَعِنِّي عَلَى ذِكْرِكَ وَشُكْرِكَ وَحُسْنِ عِبَادَتِكَ

O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best manner.

Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika

When to Read

This is a profound supplication that can be made at any time, but it is especially relevant before or during prayer, particularly as you begin reciting Surah Al-Fatihah. It's a request for divine assistance to achieve the state of mindfulness and devotion that makes our worship truly meaningful.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a heartfelt desire for Allah's help. Focus on the meaning of each part: asking for help to remember Allah (dhikr), to be grateful to Him (shukr), and to perfect one's worship (husni 'ibadah). Imagine these qualities growing within you as you utter the words. It's particularly impactful just before you start your salah, or even in the moments before you recite Al-Fatihah, asking Allah to grant you the ability to connect with Him through the recitation.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication directly addresses the core components of sincere worship. By asking for help in remembrance, gratitude, and beautiful worship, we are seeking the inner state that allows us to connect with Allah deeply. When recited with intention before or during prayer, it trains the heart and mind to focus on Allah, transforming the recitation of Al-Fatihah from a mere ritual into a meaningful conversation with our Creator. It cultivates mindfulness, making each word of the prayer a source of strength and connection, rather than a routine act. This aligns with the understanding that true prayer is 'ihsan' – worshipping Allah as if you see Him, and knowing that He sees you. This dua is a pathway to that higher level of consciousness in prayer.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught this dua to a man after he prayed and made a long supplication. The Prophet said to him: "While one of you is praying, he is in a private conversation with his Lord. So, one should recite what the Lord has taught him and glorify Him." The Prophet (peace be upon him) then taught him this dua: 'Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika.' This narration highlights the importance of seeking Allah's guidance in perfecting our remembrance, gratitude, and worship, particularly within the sacred space of prayer.
