Dua for Protection from Debt in Prayer

During Prayer
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 5893

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This powerful dua is specifically recommended to be recited during the Tashahhud of the prayer, just before concluding with the Tasleem (saying 'As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah'). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this to his Companions, emphasizing its importance in seeking Allah's protection from overwhelming worries and crushing debt.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely from the heart, understanding the profound meanings of each phrase. It's ideally said after reciting the Tashahhud and before the final Tasleem. Raise your hands slightly (if it doesn't disrupt your prayer) or keep them in the normal prayer position while making this supplication, focusing on seeking Allah's ultimate help and protection. It's a moment of deep personal connection with your Creator, asking Him to shield you from difficulties.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication offers immense spiritual and practical benefits. By seeking refuge in Allah from anxiety and sorrow, we gain peace of mind and emotional resilience. Protection from incapacity and laziness empowers us to be productive and proactive. Shielding ourselves from cowardice and stinginess cultivates courage and generosity. Most importantly, seeking refuge from the burden of debt and the subjugation of men directly asks Allah to prevent us from falling into debilitating financial hardship and the humiliation that can come with it. It’s a comprehensive request for well-being in this life and the hereafter, directly taught by our beloved Prophet ﷺ.
